“Whispers of Dawn” begins with a triplet pattern in the RH melody accompanied in the LH by a broken chord bass. The first part of section B features the LH melody and the RH accompaniment with chords. This same melody switches to the RH using primarily sixths. When the A section returns, the LH has the melody. The RH restates this same melody to bring the piece to its conclusion.

Voicing of the melody line is so important in projecting the beauty of piano music to the listener. This selection provides the student with the opportunity to shape and voice the melody line with both the RH and LH.

The triplet on beat three should be played with a forward motion leading to beat one of the next measure. Identify the melody line in each section and practice shaping it. At measure 26-34, find the RH notes that are not sixths. The piece gives the students the opportunity to play expressively and freely, using rubato and dynamics to enhance their performance.

Key: F Major
