Starting out as a teenage country singer, Wanda was encouraged to move from country music to rock & roll by her boyfriend, a young entertainer also just getting started - Elvis Presley. From 1956 to 1963, Wanda recorded a string of rock & roll and country hits, achieving success both at home and abroad.

Wanda has been nominated for the Grammy Award twice as the Best Performing Female Singer, and inducted into the Oklahoma Country Music Hall Of Fame, the Rockabilly Hall of Fame, the International Hall of Fame, the International Gospel Music Hall of Fame, the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame, and the German Country Music Hall of Fame. She has also received the Oklahoma Native Daughter Award, and an award from the National Endowment of Arts.
