Carol MatzÕs Our NationÕs Capital pays musical homage to Washington, D. C. Written in three movements, this suite focuses on the famous monuments and the Potomac River. In the first movement, A Lincoln Tribute, the powerful image of the Lincoln Memorial is depicted with a majestic tempo and Copland-like harmonies. The second movement, Along the Potomac, has a flowing, lyrical melody that represents the cherry tree-lined river in the spring. WashingtonÕs Fife and Drum Corps, the final movement, brings to life the sound of the U. S. ArmyÕs Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps as they perform at the Washington Monument. 12 pages.
