Variations on an Original Melody - Victoria Sabo, Late Elementary (OUT OF PRINT)

This set of variations, based on an original melody, provides the student with contrasting musical materials so that he or she can develop several musical colors and characters. Variations are an attractive form because the student learns the theme and then discovers how the composer varies it; key or mode, register, accompaniment, tempo, time signature, etc. A fun and challenging assignment is to see if students can come up with their own variation after they have learned the piece.
