Land of Lincoln
Land of Lincoln composed by Bernadine Johnson. For Piano. Piano Suite; Piano Supplemental. Recital Suite Series. Form: Suite. Late Intermediate. Sheet. 12 pages. Published by Alfred Music (AP.29100).
Bernadine Johnson's Land of Lincoln is a moving musical tribute to the state of Illinois and Abraham Lincoln, the sixteenth president of the United States. The first movement, also titled "Land of Lincoln," conveys the grandeur and the nostalgia of Lincoln's Farewell Address, given to the citizens of Springfield, Illinois when he left for the White House. It also features a portion of the Illinois state song. "Prairie Morning," the second movement, is a peaceful, unhurried display of life on the prairie. The final movement, "The Windy City," is a blustery portrait of Chicago, a city famous for the breezes from Lake Michigan.
