Schubert, Franz - Sonata ''Arpeggione'' in A minor, D. 821 ed. Janos Starker & Emilio Colon - Cello & Piano
Originally composed in 1824 for the arpeggione, a 6 string bowed guitar, this arrangement of Schubert's SONATA IN A MINOR is a beautiful and challenging piece of cello repertoire. This excellent edition for cello and piano is edited by Janos Starker and Emilio Colón.
The "Arpeggione" Sonata is one of the troubled works in our literature. It was written for a rarely-used instrument, and a variety of transcriptions make it a kind of free-for-all for interpreters. None of these versions is easy, but the Sonata's beauty, humor and song-like slow movement with it Erlkönig similarity make it worth the effort to enrich our palette and recreate the Viennese flavor.
